Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)
This program enables eligible households to afford the cost of decent rental property. Clients who are placed on this program are given a certificate or voucher that will enable them to rent decent, safe and sanitary housing. Each client must contribute 30% of their adjusted gross income toward rent and utilities. Section 8 subsidy pays the difference directly to the landlord, whose property must meet minimum standards and pass an inspection by a qualified inspector. Annual re-certifications are required, and the subsidy is adjusted as families become more self-sufficient. The number of participants per county and the clients chosen for enrollment are determined by the number of available vouchers.
OVO maintains a waiting list for vouchers. Names are only accepted when the waiting list is open.
